Large Wood Jewelry Box enhanced with Kewazinga Wood
A extra large jewelry box is a must if you are not able to keep track of your jewelry items. It can be very frustrating when you are all dressed up and you can’t find that particular bracelet or earrings that will go perfectly with your dress.
Keeping all your jewelry sorted out and neatly arranged in a single jewelry box can remove a lot of unnecessary stress and save you time too. Getting a jewelry box made entirely out of Kewazinga can turn into a very expensive proposition. Instead you could go in for boxes made from commonly available but sturdy wood like rubber wood, and embellished with intricate marquetry work. These boxes can easily enhance the look of your dresser and blend in beautifully with the rest of your furniture.
Kewazinga, or the Bubinga as it is commonly know, has many other names too: Akume, Kewazingo, Eban and interestingly it is also called African Rosewood even though it is definitely not a rosewood. The most common of the several of its Latin names are 'Guibourtia tessmannii' and 'Guibbourtia demeusei'. It is mostly found in Western African regions and also a few parts of Central Africa. The largest producers of this exotic wood are Cameroon, the Congo, and Gaboon.
It is a narrow grained, wavy figured extremely lustrous hardwood but can easily be cut into long and wide logs. Every cut would reveal an exclusive pattern like the Flame Effect. Each board could measure 35' wide and 16' long! And you can hear a clear musical tone when you strike the Bubinga log making it the ideal wood for musical instruments.
Its color is awesome with a shimmering rose background that slowly turns into a copper red with age that is accented by deep streaks of violet. It, in effect, looks like it has several shades of red with purple overtones. Over time, the wood definitely changes color and becomes much darker.
The Kewazinga hardwood is highly resistant to termite infestations and to preservatives but the sapwood is much more susceptible. And extreme care should be taken while sanding to avoid skin allergies just like with other exotic wood.
